Institute of Roofing members welcomed into CIOB
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has welcomed members of the Institute of Roofing (IoR) into the CIOB community, following a successful vote by IoR members at an EGM on 14 February 2025.
Discussions about integrating the IoR into CIOB began in 2023 and since then both organisations have worked closely to ensure IoR members continue to have access to high-quality professional development, networking opportunities, and a globally-recognised route to chartered status.
Following the decision by IoR members to dissolve the Institute they have since been contacted by CIOB about their transition to CIOB membership based on their individual expertise and qualifications. For some, this could be as a Technical Member (TechCIOB), while others could enter as Chartered Members (MCIOB) or Chartered Fellows (FCIOB). IoR members will have the opportunity to progress through the CIOB’s membership grades should they wish by following the same rigorous assessment processes as all existing and aspiring CIOB members.
To further support the transition, CIOB has committed to ensuring roofing professionals have a strong voice within the organisation by integrating their expertise into its governance processes and policy work to strengthen connections across the built environment, enhancing knowledge-sharing and increasing professional development.
CIOB CEO, Caroline Gumble, said: "We have the broadest membership base of any professional body in the built environment. Often referred to as the integrated team, our members represent the vast array of disciplines needed to create, manage, and conserve our built world. Welcoming roofing professionals into CIOB further strengthens this integrated approach, recognising the crucial role they play in delivering high-quality, sustainable buildings. Their expertise and talent will enhance our mission to make modern professionalism widely aspired to and increasingly a reality across the industry."
Mark Dunn FCIOB, IoR Vice Chair, added: “The Board of the Institute of Roofing is pleased to support members in their transition to CIOB, ensuring their expertise is recognised and valued while strengthening the voice of roofing professionals within the wider built environment.”
